It is clear that the author's thirty years of running The Journal of Literary Semantics have informed and inflected his integrated treatise. The formation of the International Association of Literary Semantics could hardly have been thought of without that contribution by Trevor Eaton. 2010 marked a significant occasion for IALS in the publication of its founder Trevor Eaton’s definitive work Literary Semantics*... Eaton’s book is firmly rooted in the study of literature, which is, of course, where many of the stylisticians’ interests lie. It is also strongly evangelical about the need for rigour, replicability and objectivity in English studies.
