Worthy addition to any naval library
For all you ex-sailors out there who did service on the bigger ships, you must remember the NAAFI and the men who served in the shops. Not only will this book appeal to ex-matelots but to dockyard men in general as Allan mentions so many locations within the old dockyard and it will bring back many memories. In his time, Allan first pushed a carrier bike all around Portsmouth naval establishments from the Dockyard to HMS Vernon to the RNB Victory Barracks before being allowed to go to sea aged 17. He later served in HM Ships Kenya, Blackpool and Dunkirk, travelling many tiimes to the Mediterranean where Gilbraltar and Malta became second homes. Illustrated with many black and white photographs Ice Cream & Goffa is a worthy additions to any naval library. (Review appeared in 'The News' - a local Portsmouth paper, p7 25 April 2008)

Deserves wider acclaim
A real life account of the NAAFI staff and the ships crews who served on R.N. Ships in the 1950s. It held my interest from cover to cover. In my opinion Ice Cream and Goffa deserves wider acclaim.
